I recently inherited some coins from my father and I'm interested in learning more about them. One in particular is very mysterious.

It's an oval, almost egg shape (approx. 11x10mm) and made of a silver metal. It's nicely weighted for its size, so I don't think it's aluminum. There are no pictures but on each side is a row of dots and a bunch of squiggly lines that look like Arabic script, but I can't be sure.

This is unlike anything I've seen before and I'm not even sure it is a currency coin. Does anyone know anything about this? Any information at all could help.

This sounds like a 8 reales coin of Mexico, struck in the name of the Spanish king Carlos IV. The M with a little o on it is the mintmark of the Mexican Mint. 8R refers to 8 reales, while the F.M. refers to mintmasters Francisco Arance Cobos and Mariano Rodriguez.

Those coins are widely counterfeited. A real one should weigh 27.0674 gram.
